Basic, mid-tier, or premium — which plan do you need?

A basic plan usually covers the essentials: skimming debris, brushing walls, and basic chemical testing. Mid-tier plans add more thorough, consistent chemical balancing and a periodic equipment check. Premium plans typically bundle full chemical management, regular filter cleaning, and equipment inspection or minor repairs into the visit — worth it if you'd rather not think about your pool at all, or if you have finicky equipment that benefits from regular attention.

What affects pool cleaning pricing the most?

A neglected pool often needs a one-time cleaning first. If your pool has visible algae or has been unmaintained for a while, budget for a $150-$350 one-time cleaning before starting a monthly plan — most companies won't start a maintenance plan on a pool that needs restoration work first.

Worked example: a medium pool in Arizona

For a medium pool (15,000–25,000 gallons) on a basic monthly plan, the national estimate is about $61 to $70 per month. Arizona's price level is within 1% of the national average, so the estimate stays at about $61 to $70 per month, or roughly $730 to $840 a year before chemicals if the plan doesn't include them.

A large pool on a premium plan in Florida estimates at about $176 to $207 per month. Premium plans typically include chemicals, filter cleaning and equipment checks, which is where most of the price difference comes from.

How this estimate is calculated

Each service type has a published price range. The pool size you choose places your pool at 15% (small), 50% (medium) or 85% (large) of the way through that range, and the calculator shows a band 15% of the range on either side of that point. Choosing a state multiplies the result by that state's Regional Price Parity from the Bureau of Economic Analysis. See our methodology.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a one-time pool cleaning cost?

How much does monthly pool cleaning cost?

Monthly pool cleaning plans typically run $50 to $200 depending on the service level: basic plans run $50 to $80, mid-tier plans run $70 to $95, and premium plans with extra chemical balancing and equipment checks run $100 to $200.

What's the difference between basic, mid-tier, and premium pool plans?

Does pool cleaning cost vary by state?

Yes. Labor costs vary by region. This calculator lets you select your state to apply a general regional cost-of-living adjustment based on U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis data, though it is not a substitute for a local quote.
