Estimate what lawn mowing costs per cut and across a full season, based on your lawn size, how often you mow and your state.
Last reviewed September 2026 · How we calculate estimates
Lawn mowing is priced mainly by lawn size and frequency. Weekly service costs less per visit because the grass is shorter and faster to cut, while every-four-weeks service costs more per visit but less over the season. Enter your details to see both numbers.
| Lawn size | Weekly | Every 2 weeks | Every 4 weeks |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1/8 acre | $30 – $40 | $40 – $50 | $50 – $60 |
| 1/4 acre | $45 – $65 | $60 – $85 | $70 – $100 |
| 1/2 acre | $50 – $75 | $65 – $100 | $80 – $120 |
| 3/4 acre | $55 – $80 | $70 – $120 | $85 – $150 |
| 1 acre | $60 – $100 | $80 – $150 | $95 – $180 |
Source: HomeGuide, 2026 per-visit mowing prices. One-time or on-call mowing typically runs $50 to $100 per visit, and overgrown lawns $70 to $150.
A quarter-acre lawn mowed weekly costs about $45 to $65 per cut nationally. In North Carolina (about 5.7% below the national price level), that's roughly $42 to $61 per cut. Over a 7-month season (about 30 cuts), it adds up to roughly $1,287 to $1,858.
Switching the same lawn to every two weeks raises the per-cut price to about $60 to $85 nationally, but halves the number of visits, so the season total drops to about $911 to $1,291. The trade-off is taller grass between cuts, which some lawns and HOAs tolerate better than others.
Each lawn size and frequency uses a published per-visit national range. The season estimate multiplies that by the average number of visits: 4.33 per month for weekly, 2.17 for every two weeks and 1.08 for every four weeks, times the months in your season. Choosing a state applies that state's Regional Price Parity from the Bureau of Economic Analysis. See our methodology.
Recurring lawn mowing typically costs $30 to $85 per visit for most residential lawns. A quarter-acre lawn mowed weekly runs about $45 to $65 per cut. One-time mowing usually costs $50 to $100.
A seasonal contract for roughly 25 to 35 mowings typically costs $900 to $2,000, depending on lawn size, frequency and region.
Weekly mowing keeps grass healthier during peak growth and costs less per visit. Biweekly costs less per season. Many homeowners mow weekly in spring and early summer and switch to biweekly as growth slows.
Yes. This calculator applies a regional cost-of-living adjustment based on U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis data. Season length also varies widely by climate, which affects annual cost more than per-visit price.
